InvestorUniverse vs Dealroom
Dealroom is a global startup data platform with published team plans. InvestorUniverse is a UK investor shortlist for one founder's raise.
What Dealroom is
Dealroom describes itself as a global intelligence platform for startup ecosystems. It holds data on companies, founders, investors and funding rounds, and gives users search and filtering, a signals and newsfeed view, regional and sector reports, and an API. It integrates with tools such as Slack, HubSpot and Salesforce.
Its coverage is global. When I looked, its homepage featured reports on the UK, Scotland and Spain alongside a global ecosystem index.
Who it suits
Dealroom's own site lists venture capital firms, corporates, government and economic development bodies, and strategy consultancies among its users. That points to analysts, investors and ecosystem teams who need to map markets and track activity across many companies.
A founder can use it to research a sector or see which investors are active, but the product is built for teams doing ongoing research.
If you are a founder at a larger company with a research or strategy team, the picture changes. A team that needs to monitor funding across Europe on a regular basis, share exports and connect data to other tools will get more from a platform built for that purpose.
What it costs
Dealroom publishes its plans. Premium is €12,600 a year and needs a minimum of three seats. Premium Plus is €17,000 a year and adds more export credits and an MCP connection for AI tools. Enterprise and its API plus MCP product are custom priced. Its pricing page says startups and nonprofits can ask about special pricing.
InvestorUniverse is built for a single founder. Your top 10 is free, the full report is a one-off purchase, and monthly plans start with Spark at £79.
For a solo founder in the middle of a raise, a three-seat annual plan is a big commitment for what is usually a few weeks of focused work. That is a matter of fit and timing, and it says nothing about the quality of the platform.
Where Dealroom is strong
Breadth is its strength. If you need data across a whole ecosystem, with filters by company, sector, location and investor, plus reports and a feed of signals, Dealroom covers a lot of ground. The API and integrations suit teams who want to pull data into their own workflow.
Its coverage runs well beyond the UK, which is useful if you are comparing the UK against other markets. We do not offer that breadth.
Where InvestorUniverse is a better fit
We do one job for one raise. Tell us about your startup and we score UK investors on stage, sector, cheque size, geography and recent activity, then return up to 100 best-fit investors with a written reason for each.
If you are a founder who wants a shortlist to act on this week, that is quicker than building your own from a large database. There is no seat minimum and no annual contract to size up. We also run a funding newsroom so you can keep an eye on UK rounds.
You can also run the free top 10 once you sign up first, with no card and no seat count to worry about. If the shortlist is useful, buy the full report. If you want ongoing access as your raise develops, monthly plans start with Spark at £79.
When I'd use Dealroom instead
I'd use Dealroom if I were an analyst, an investor, a corporate team or an ecosystem body who needs to research many companies and markets across borders. I'd also pick it if I wanted API access to feed data into other systems.
If I were raising outside the UK as well, a global database would give me more to work with than a UK-focused tool.
How they can work together
Use Dealroom to understand your market: who your competitors are and which investors are active in your space across Europe. Then use InvestorUniverse to turn that into an ordered list of UK investors who fit your stage and cheque size.
Start with the free top 10 once you sign up and see how it compares with the names you already have.
If your team does have a Dealroom licence, export the investors active in your space and compare them with our ranked list. Where the two overlap, you have your strongest first-wave targets. Where they differ, our written reasons help you judge which names deserve an email.
Quick summary
Dealroom is a global data platform with published team plans from €12,600 a year. InvestorUniverse is a UK-focused ranked shortlist with written reasons, free for the top 10 and a one-off fee for the full 100. Teams doing research suit Dealroom. A founder who wants a list to work through suits us.
Both tools are useful in the right hands. The question is whether you need a research platform for a team or a shortlist for a single raise, and that usually settles the choice quickly.
